Triangle Ranks Globally: NCFIL featured on TechWire
The NC Food Innovation Lab (NCFIL) was recently featured in “Triangle ranks 10th globally for agtech, food tech ecosystem – here’s why” on WRAL TechWire, the Triangle’s only technology-specific news publication.
Agtech Hotbed
Research Triangle ranked 10th globally, and 6th in the United States, for best startup ecosystems for agricultural technology and new food companies in the annual The Global Startup Ecosystem Report: Agtech & New Food Edition report compiled by Startup Genome.
The report credits the Triangle Region’s “talent, experience, and past performance in the agricultural and new food sectors” for the rise from its 36th overall position in 2021. Among these assets is the growing presence of the NCFIL.
As the state recognizes the massive impact the agtech sector has on North Carolina’s economy, Bill Aimutis, executive director of the NCFIL, explains to WRAL TechWire that “[r]esearchers that were once more interested in biotech/biomedicine [are] recognizing food is a clean label method to pursue bioactive compounds with, in some cases, fewer regulatory hurdles to enter the market.”
